Hey there! It is said that Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and difficult to bear. The frequent attempt to conceal mental pain increases the pain. It's easier to say "My tooth is aching" than "My heart feels broken". When a person goes through a long period of constant grief, experiencing hopelessness and thinking there's no way out of there misery, he/she may become depressed. Let's talk about Depression, what it actually is, it's causes, it's signs and cures for depression.


What actually is Depression? A mental health disorder characterised by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life. What usually causes Depression? Possible causes include a combination of biological, psychological and social sources of distress. Increasingly, research suggests that these factors may cause changes in brain function, including altered activity of certain neural circuits in the brain.


What are some common signs someone may be going through depression? Here are 15 Warning signs someone's Depression is setting in. 1. They're more quiet than usual 2. They use the excuse I'm tired a lot 3. They tend to loose their appetite 4. They avoid eye contact 5. They want to be alone a lot 6. They smile for a moment but go back to a blank expression afterwards 7. They struggle to stay engaged in conversation 8. They've become emotionally distant 9. They've become apathetic about things they'd normally be engaged in 10. They have big mood swings 11. They avoid making future plans 12. They have difficulty concentrating 13. They start taking about bleakly things 14. They start giving short responses 15. They get irritated by little things



What are the different types of depression? Seven of the more common types of depression include the following. 1. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) 2. Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD) 3. Bipolar Disorder 4. Postpartum Depression (PPD) 5. Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) 6. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) 7. Atypical Depression


Can I treat depression? Depression is treatable, and managing symptoms usually involves three components: Support: This can range from discussing practical solutions and possible causes to educating family members. Psychotherapy: Also known as talking therapy, some options include one-to-one counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Drug treatment: A doctor may prescribe antidepressants.


Medication: Antidepressants can help treat moderate-to-severe depression. Several classes of antidepressants are available: 1. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) 2. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) 3. Tricyclic antidepressants 4. Atypical antidepressants 4. Selective Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) Each class acts on a different neurotransmitter or combination of neurotransmitters.



A person should only take these medications as their doctor prescribes. Some drugs can take a while to have an impact. By stopping the drug, a person may not experience the benefits that it could offer. A love letter to those of you living with a mental illness :) You are enough. You are seen.
