Online Classes.

Hey! How're you all?! In today's blog, we will be talking about online classes or else you can say, online education.

Life has changed in numerous ways for all of us in the past few months. Be it be students, workers etc. There are a few jobs which are going on by the work-from-home idea. So, as for the students, schools introduced the concept of "Online Learning" for the safety and welfare of students.

Because we don't have any idea for how long this pandemic will last, considering the situation, online classes are being proven as really helpful, both for the students as well as the teachers. But, there are also a few cons of it.

Keeping in mind that Online Classes can only be attended "Online", that is, on a type of screen, is having harmful effects on student's eyesight, which is very dangerous.

Common complaints include irritation, pain and swelling, For communication, people have become dependent on WhatsApp as it is a very easy platform to use. Teachers interact with students and assign them their tasks. But this is affecting their eyes very badly.

The frequency of webinars on every possible subject is such that Dr Namrata Sharma, the general secretary of the New Delhi-based All India Ophthalmological Society, calls them a “pandemic” of their own kind.

The eyes, she said, don’t only get affected by mobile phones and laptops but also from the summer heat. “There is a pandemic of prolonged Zoom meetings and webinars. The way people are using the internet would not only harm their eyes but they might suffer from pain in their shoulders, neck and other body parts as well,” she added.

Kazim Rizvi, the head of a Delhi-based think-tank The Dialogue, cited telecom ministry data to point out that internet use in India has gone up by 13 per cent during the lockdown.

But things are getting much, much worse.

In a recent incident of 2nd June, A Class 9th student, from Malappuram, Kerala, committed suicide as she didn't had access to neither a phone nor television.

She set herself on fire, around 3:00 P.M, after she went missing.

Her family was financially very strained and the girl was worried she would not be able to study further, or that her studies would be affected and so ended her life.

In another incident, a class 11th student committed suicide on 8th June because she also didn't had access to a smart phone. The victim was the daughter of a farm laborer. The victim's father stated that the girl was under stress as her father couldn't afford to buy her a smartphone.

In my opinion, having a smart phone or a television to continue your studies wasn't a really big deal that both of these students committed suicide. Who knows, things might have gotten better for them financially and they would have been able to continue their online studies. But now that they are no more, there would be no use of any money or any smartphones.

It's even scary to think what would happen in the next few months if things kept getting worse day by day.

But, we also can't ignore the fact that Online Classes DO have some pros.

Due to Online Classes, students are able to study at the comfort of their house. There isn't a burden on students to wake up early, or to dress up in uniforms, or to carry heavy bags on their back. So yeah, we can say that Online Classes are being quite helpful in the current circumstances.
